This study aims to analyze students of Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN)) facing and overcoming culture shock in their lectures. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation in the campus environment, and analysis of related documents. The research participants consisted of new students, lecturers, and Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah Medan (UMN) campus staff who had direct experience related to the cultural adaptation process on campus. The collected data were analyzed using a descriptive-analytical approach to identify adaptation patterns and strategies applied by students. The results of the study indicate that Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah Medan (UMN) students face several challenges in adapting to the academic and social environment on campus, including language differences, social norms, and the education system. Factors that influence successful adaptation include an open attitude towards cultural differences, social support from friends and lecturers, and language skills possessed by students. Most students who successfully overcome culture shock show a proactive attitude in seeking solutions, such as taking language courses, joining study groups, and actively participating in campus activities that support social interaction. In the discussion, it was found that the role of social support from classmates and lecturers is very important in accelerating the adaptation process. In addition, the Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah Medan (UMN) campus has also provided various facilities, such as orientation programs and language courses, which help students face the challenges of culture shock. However, there is a need for improved facilities and more structured campus programs to facilitate the process of cultural adaptation for international students and students from other regions in Indonesia. In conclusion, although Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah Medan (UMN) students face challenges in dealing with culture shock, they can overcome it with the help of an open attitude, social support, and existing campus facilities. The campus is advised to continue to develop programs that support students in the adaptation process, in order to create a more inclusive academic environment and support students' academic and social success.

Sanita Fitri, Muliawan Prayuda Putra, Zulfitri Zulfitri Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of English Education, Linguistics, Literature, and Language Learning and Teaching https://bangunharapanbangsa.id/ejurnal/index.php/jee/article/view/328 Fri, 31 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Analysis Of Speech Events Of Bilingualism In UMN https://bangunharapanbangsa.id/ejurnal/index.php/jee/article/view/329
Bilingualism in higher education, especially at Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah (UMN), is an important linguistic phenomenon to analyze, considering the diversity of languages used by students, lecturers, and administrative staff. English is no longer only a means of communication, but also as a bridge to achieve international opportunities, both in education, career and social. In addition, through the main discussion conducted in this study aims to be able to identify and analyze effective strategies in improving the speaking skills of students in English classes. In addition, this study also has another goal, namely to be able to explore the factors that support and hinder the implementation of these strategies in the school environment. And in addition, the Research Method section used in this study is to use a quantitative and qualitative approach (mixed methods) in order to identify problems in depth while measuring the results of strategy implementation. So based on this, this study shows several important findings that can be concluded, including the first conclusion, namely the success of speaking learning is highly dependent on a combination of interactive teaching methods that are relevant to students' needs. Strategies such as role-play, group discussions, and presentations are effective in creating an active and supportive learning environment. This activity not only helps students hone their speaking skills, but also builds their confidence in using English orally, then the second conclusion is that the active involvement of teachers in designing interesting and contextual learning materials has a significant influence on student motivation. Teachers who are able to present a fun and communicative learning atmosphere will encourage students to participate more in speaking activities. In addition, providing constructive feedback from teachers can increase students' awareness of their mistakes and improve their speaking skills gradually and for the last conclusion, namely, through the use of technology such as language learning applications, interactive videos, and online discussion platforms have also proven to be useful in supporting speaking learning. This technology provides additional access for students to practice outside the classroom, allowing them to improve pronunciation, grammar, and intonation through speaking simulations with native speakers or automated devices.

Elizabeth Eunike Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of English Education, Linguistics, Literature, and Language Learning and Teaching https://bangunharapanbangsa.id/ejurnal/index.php/jee/article/view/304 Fri, 31 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Communicative Approach in Teaching English in Schools https://bangunharapanbangsa.id/ejurnal/index.php/jee/article/view/305
In the current era of globalization, English has become one of the most widely used languages in the world, both in education, economics, science and international communication. As an international language, mastery of English has a very important role in supporting individual development in the current era of globalization. In the context of education in Indonesia, English has become one of the compulsory subjects at many levels of education, from elementary school to higher education. In addition, through the main discussion carried out in this study, it aims to be able to examine more deeply the effectiveness of the communicative approach in teaching English in schools, as well as identify factors that support and hinder its implementation in formal education environments in Indonesia. Overall, this study is expected to be one of the references to be able to understand the importance of the communicative approach in teaching English, especially in preparing the young generation of Indonesia who are competent in English. And in addition, the Research Method section used in this study is to use an approach that is conceptualized in a qualitative approach with a case study method. So based on this, this study shows that students feel more confident and motivated to be able to participate in learning. They felt an improvement in their speaking and listening skills as well as their understanding of vocabulary and pronunciation. In addition, students felt that this method helped them overcome barriers in speaking English and increased their confidence in communicating. Teachers also viewed this approach as an effective way to make learning more interactive and interesting, although some constraints such as time constraints, lack of resources and variations in student ability levels need to be considered. Overall, the communicative approach has a positive impact on English teaching in schools and has the potential to improve students' abilities in facing global communication needs. And through this approach, it also opens up space for more authentic language learning and emphasizes the importance of real experiences in the language learning process.
Novita Sari Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of English Education, Linguistics, Literature, and Language Learning and Teaching https://bangunharapanbangsa.id/ejurnal/index.php/jee/article/view/305 Fri, 31 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Culture-Based English Teaching Improves Understanding of Language Context https://bangunharapanbangsa.id/ejurnal/index.php/jee/article/view/306
English language skills have now become one of the most important basic competencies in the current era of globalization. English not only functions as a means of international communication, but also as a medium to access information and knowledge globally. In addition, through the main discussion carried out in this study, it aims to explore how culture-based English teaching can improve understanding of language context among students. Through this study, there is also another goal, namely to identify effective strategies that can be applied by teachers in integrating cultural elements in language learning. And in addition, the Implementation Method section used in this study is to use a mixed approach, namely qualitative and quantitative. So based on this, this study shows the results that cultural integration in English teaching improves students' understanding of language variations in formal and informal situations. Students become more sensitive to cultural differences, are able to adjust their communication styles, and avoid misunderstandings in cross-cultural communication. In addition, this approach also helps improve students' speaking, listening, and writing skills, making them more confident and competent in using English in everyday life and professional environments. In addition, culture-based teaching encourages active participation of students in teaching and learning activities. They are more involved in discussions, simulations, and other interactive activities that enrich their learning experience. The application of technology, such as videos, multimedia materials, and interactions with native speakers, also play an important role in supporting this approach, providing students with direct exposure to authentic cultural contexts.
Windi Arwanda Sari Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of English Education, Linguistics, Literature, and Language Learning and Teaching https://bangunharapanbangsa.id/ejurnal/index.php/jee/article/view/306 Fri, 31 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0700
